Drones Used in Rural Chinese Funeral to Create Farewell Ceremony Blending Tradition and Modern Technology

Two drones were used in a rural Chinese funeral to create a farewell ceremony that blended traditional beliefs with modern technology. One drone was designed to resemble the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, while the other represented the deceased, riding a crane, symbolizing the journey to heaven. The event took place at a large house in the countryside, with relatives and guests in attendance. The drones emitted sounds consisting of messages generated by artificial intelligence (AI). The crane drone played the voice of the deceased elderly man, expressing his wish for his children to be safe and happy. The Avalokiteśvara drone announced that it would guide the deceased to the west and bestow blessings upon the attendees for good health. Both drones were adorned with bright lights as they ascended, accompanied by chanting music. Experts stated that the rental cost for one drone is 5,000 yuan (approximately 25,000 Thai baht). The video clip has sparked debate on social media, with some viewing it as a creative idea that combines the aviation industry, the elderly population, and funeral services, while others consider it inappropriate because funerals should be solemn.
