Key summary

A senior Bangkok police officer successfully disarmed a suspect who was holding a knife to his 5-year-old son's neck while restraining his wife beneath the Yommarat intersection on Phetchaburi Road in Ratchathewi district. The incident occurred at approximately 10:20 on Saturday, October 24. Police from Phaya Thai station and rescue volunteers responded to reports of a man threatening a child with a knife. At around 10:50, Pol. Maj. Gen. Worasak Phisitbanakorn, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1 and the incident commander, seized an opportunity to grab the knife while the suspect was sitting in the back of a police pickup truck. The suspect, identified as Noi, 35, had allegedly taken drugs and stolen a knife from a shop before threatening his family. His wife, Fai, 35, stated that the couple had discussed returning to Laos but argued over insufficient travel expenses. Both the boy and the mother received first aid; the boy sustained a cut measuring 1-5 centimeters on his neck, while his mother suffered a bleeding wound near her left ear. The suspect was taken to Phaya Thai station after negotiations helped calm him down. Police will conduct a urine test to check for drugs and question the suspect further. Pol. Col. Thanaphon Klinkasorn, chief of Phaya Thai police station, confirmed that the couple are Lao nationals and noted that Fai had previously been assaulted by her husband.
