Tianjin Electronic Information Polytechnic Integrates AI into Cybersecurity Training

Key summary

Tianjin Electronic Information Polytechnic in China has integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into its cybersecurity training programs. Students learn through practical operations at the institution's AI Security Operations Center, where AI systems filter initial data before human teams conduct final reviews and decision-making. Third-year student Ting Yien, specializing in information security, works within this center; the system filters thousands of alerts down to approximately 600 for team review, with about 300 requiring actual action. Students analyze anomalies, assess risks, and coordinate responses to threats such as blocking harmful IP addresses. Chui Paochai, dean of the College of Network and Communication, provides technical guidance. The curriculum covers AI development, AI-assisted programming, and creating intelligent network security agents, emphasizing understanding AI mechanics rather than just tool usage. Before taking on real responsibilities, students undergo three months of intensive training and assessment by company engineers to ensure skills meet industry standards. The institution incorporates actual business projects into coursework to help students solve problems and learn accountability. Collaboration between the educational institution and businesses improves company efficiency while developing personnel ready for the AI-era labor market. The core principle is that AI handles repetitive tasks to increase speed, while humans remain essential for analysis, verification, and final decision-making in situations where automated systems may be insufficient.
